A PERFECT SMILE, IS A CONFIDENT SMILE
Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are cosmetic procedure made from custom made thin shells of porcelain or resin bonded to front surface of your teeth to improve their shape, colour or position. At Headrow Dental Leeds we often use dental veneers to;
- Fix discoloured teeth.
- Close gaps between teeth.
- Restore teeth that are worn down or chipped.
- Help align or shape uneven or irregular shaped teeth.
Dental veneers are made from porcelain or resin composite materials. We use the highest quality of dental veneers available choosing the most aesthetically suitable for each of our patients’ teeth. Resin veneers require the dentist to remove less of the tooth surface as they are thinner than porcelain veneers.
They can be fitted in one visit as the composite resin is fashioned to the desired shape of the tooth and a special light is applied which cures the resin quickly. Once complete the tooth is polished. Though porcelain veneers are thicker and require more of the tooth surface to be removed they appear more natural and are more durable. Porcelain veneers are resistant to staining even from cigarettes and coloured liquids.
A PRECIOUS SMILE, IS A HAPPY SMILE
Dental Veneers
To prepare your porcelain veneer our experienced dentists will remove about half a millimetre of enamel from the tooth surface which is approximately equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added. For porcelain veneers, an impression of your tooth will be taken and sent to the dental laboratory to be manufactured. It takes approximately 1 -2 weeks for us to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. In some cases, a temporary veneer will be applied to your teeth until we receive the permanent veneer to be fixed. Once received, our dentist will check that veneer fits correctly and matches in colour by placing it temporarily on your tooth. The veneer is then trimmed and shaped until it fits perfectly. To allow your tooth to receive the veneer properly once bonded it is cleaned and etched. Special dental cement is then applied to your tooth and the veneer is placed upon it. Once our dentist has positioned the veneer properly he will apply a special light to the dental veneer which activates the chemicals in the dental cement causing it to harden quickly. Any excess dental cement is removed and your bite will be accessed. In many cases you will not need a local anaesthetic however if on assessment our dentist thinks that this is the best course of action, then he will administer one. In some cases can be an alternative to dental veneers.
